Description
So, it has come to my attention that today is the 36th anniversary of Van Halen's second album: Van Halen II (1979). On March 23rd, 1979, after having now released the greatest debut album ever, Van Halen headed back to the studio immediately after their debut tour was over, and recorded their next album in 3 weeks. While their first album focused more on hardcore rock, and was critically acclaimed, Van Halen II is focused more softer rock. It was released in 1979, once again produced by Ted Templeman, and released under Warner Bros. Records, and was met with mixed to positive reviews, but still sold just as well commercially as the first album.
Though I don't consider the album Van Halen's best work, I DO think that the album DEFINITELY holds up extremely well. It is certainly more party rock in terms of the album's tone, whereas the first album was more heavy, hard rock oriented. This second album also sounds softer, and Eddie's guitar sounds more tamer, but by God is it still as awesome now as it was then! Hell, ever since I bought the album 2 years ago, my iPod shows I've played the album 10 times. And, why not? People's expectations were greatly fulfilled when this album came out. Sadly, none of us were there to experience it first hand, but thanks to iTunes, I was able to experience it in another great way, in remastered form. So, to commemorate the anniversary of this album, I present a little drawing I started 2 months ago, but was waiting to upload for just this occasion, and am happy to share. I am definitely more proud of this drawing than the first album cover, and I really like the use of blue color pencil I used.
